Heatherton Cricket Club was founded in 1879, making it one of the oldest cricket clubs in Melbourne. We now compete in Cricket Southern Bayside, Cricket Victoria's premier community competition, and play out of our clubrooms on Ross Street, Heatherton.
Our motto, Facile Princeps — "easily the best" — has followed the club through generations of players. Whether you're chasing a premiership, want your kids to learn the game properly, or just fancy a Saturday afternoon with good people and a cold drink after, there's a spot for you here.
From a meeting point for local market gardeners to a club with a genuine competitive history — the story so far.
By 1965, the club had enough sons and friends of members to form an Under 16 team in the CMCA. That side included sons of seniors Neil Cole-Sinclair, Ray Jopling, David Rae, Alan Splatt, Chris Sheppard, Ian Hogan and Russell Chipperfield, alongside locals John Calder, John Fisher and Michael Hobbins.
Roger Petrie was instrumental in recruiting and growing the junior ranks — by the early 1970s the club fielded both Under 14 and Under 16 teams.
By the late 1960s, Heatherton was fielding four senior sides — two teams competing in the VJCA, and two teams competing in the CMCA.
